It was in 1960 that the Greek shipwrights Kiriakos Vagenas
and Mitsos Katopodis,

decided to establish
Marina Vliho
on a site ideally suited as a boatyard tucked away in the northwest
corner of Vlyho Bay.
The bay has been recognised as an ideal harbour since ancient
times and the famous German archaeologist Dorpfeld believed that it protected
the ships of Odysseus.
There's no swell and the seabed provides good and sound anchorage.
When the world 'discovered' the Ionian islands in the 70s, it was already
being frequented by many yachts and Kiriakos and Mitsos decided to
offer winter storage for the small yacht.
Today, provision is made for over 200 yachts fully protected against storms that
are sometimes, quite severe.
Nevertheless, traditional craft are still built in the yard and visitors are
welcome to see the old and tested ways of building.
